Meet Our Board of Directors

Howard Sangwine, ICD.D

  • Howard Sangwine recently retired from RBC Capital Markets, where he served as a Managing Director in their Capital Markets business for 17 years.

    Throughout his career, Howard demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise in the financial services industry, making significant contributions to the firm’s success and reputation.

    Beyond his professional accomplishments, Howard is deeply committed to advocating for mental health awareness, particularly in relation to anxiety-based issues impacting young people.

    His dedication is evident in his role as a Board Member of the Lionheart Foundation, an organization that played a pivotal role in supporting his daughter through her own struggles with anxiety.

    Recognizing the profound impact of the Foundation, Howard actively supports its initiatives and is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health challenges faced by youth.

    Through his efforts, he aims to foster understanding and help provide resources for families in the community, highlighting the importance of mental health support and the positive change that can come from organization like the Lionheart Foundation.

    Howard is married and has four grown children.

Jamilah Edwards

  • Jamilah Edwards is the Executive Director at Lionheart Foundation. In this role, she brings a wealth of experience in organizational strategy and leadership, community engagement, board governance and sector collaboration.

    Throughout her career, Jamilah has held important leadership positions at several Calgary-based non-profits. These roles have enabled her to build strong relationships with groups key to Lionheart’s success including core funders, public service system partners, and organizations that support vulnerable youth and their families.

    Prior to accepting her role at Lionheart, Jamilah was the first Executive Director at the Calgary Fetal Alcohol Network (CFAN), where she oversaw all aspects of organizational stewardship including budget planning and reporting, human resource management, brand development and messaging, program development, fund development and community engagement. Jamilah also has a clear understanding of best practice governance processes and engagement, honed during her time at CFAN and in her role as a public member of the Board of Governors for Bow Valley College.

    Jamilah is passionate about ensuring Lionheart Foundation remains fiscally responsible and accountable to donors. She is also focused on supporting strong community partnerships and connections, building sector capacity and on achieving the Foundation’s mission and vision.

Greg Heath, P. Eng

  • Greg is an engineer by training and is currently the Chief Commercial Officer for World Energy GH2, a private company developing a global-scale renewable energy project on the east coast of Canada. Prior to this role, he has worked in Capital Markets leading the Project Finance and energy investment banking teams for a global investment bank, as well as providing senior banking coverage in energy transition and upstream oil and gas. Greg is married and has four children that ensure life as plenty of excitement every day.

    Greg is passionate about mental health issues that affect adolescent children, has a clear perspective and experience on what constitutes sound therapeutic services and is passionate about advocating for filling the gaps in our mental health system. He also has strong strategic planning, governance and financial skills, all of which result in a meaningful contribution to Lionheart Foundation.

Heidi Dinning

  • Heidi’s professional experience spans three decades in both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. As a seasoned communications and fundraising professional, she raised millions for Canadian charities, including The Canadian Women’s Foundation, The Alberta Cancer Foundation and The University of Calgary.

    Making a career pivot at 40, Heidi now works to support individuals and families navigating family breakdowns and divorce. She retrained to become a CDC® Certified Divorce Coach, CDC® Certified Transition & Recovery Coach, guiding individuals and families to success and happiness in their new normal. She is a member of the National Safe Parents Coalition, The Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and The High Conflict Institute.

    Growing up in a family where community service volunteering was a priority, she became involved in volunteering at a very young age, spending 20 years as a Stampede volunteer, including Chairing the Stampede Talent Search Committee, and acting as in a Presidential appointment to the Stampede’s Nominating and Shareholder Relations Committee. She continues to volunteer at many other community-based organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Inn from the Cold, and the Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society, to name a few. She has been a member of the Lionheart Foundation’s Board of Directors since 2012.

    As a mother of four teenagers, two daughters of her own, a step-daughter and step-son, Heidi is deeply committed to ensuring our adolescents can grow up in a world where they have access to the right support as they face life’s challenges, regardless of their financial resources.

Megan Babienko, CPA, CA

  • Megan is a designated Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) by training and is currently the Managing Director of Ferguson Corporation, a commercial glazing company that constructs complex and advanced glass and building envelopes across Western Canada. She is responsible for overseeing the business affairs of the corporation and coordinating company growth and development by guiding and implementing long-term strategic planning initiatives. Prior to this role, Megan was a Partner at KPMG Enterprise, where she provided accounting, tax and business advisory services to entrepreneurs and private businesses.

    Megan is married and has two young children. She has a passion for mental wellness and in particular helping youth and young adults access mental health supports, which stems from her experience supporting a close family member with mental health challenges, as well as her own struggles with mental health at various points in her life.

    Megan enjoys working on not-for-profit boards, especially those that are contemplating organizational growth. She has volunteered on two previous not for profit boards and has enjoyed both opportunities where she provided financial expertise, specifically with regard to financial reporting, tax reporting and charitable receipting. She has also advised on the development/restructuring of organizational structures, establishment of governance practices and policies, business and strategic planning, and general accounting and tax considerations. Megan is currently Treasurer and Chair of the Audit and Budget Committee for Lionheart Foundation.

Chris Redgate

  • Chris Redgate is Head, Canadian Energy Investment Banking for RBC Capital Markets and has been with the firm for over 15 years. In addition to leading the Canadian Energy Investment Banking group, Chris has coverage responsibilities for a range of upstream oil and gas producers and is a member of RBC’s Global Investment Banking Canadian Management Committee, M&A Opinion Review Committee and RBC Capital Markets’ Donations Committee.

    Chris holds a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and is a CFA Charterholder. Prior to pursuing his MBA, Chris worked as a mechanical engineer in the oil and gas sector.

    Chris was born and raised in Calgary and is married with two young boys. He is passionate about youth mental health and access to professional resources for those that are impacted.

Kristin Cerny

  • Ms. Cerny is ARC’s Vice President, Finance, and is responsible for treasury, corporate finance, insurance, risk management, and market fundamentals analysis. She has more than 20 years of finance experience in capital markets and the energy industry. Ms. Cerny has been with ARC since 2011 in roles of increasing responsibility. Prior to joining ARC Resources, she worked for two global investment banks in institutional equities in the US for eight years.

    Currently, she also serves as a director for WinSport. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Science in Accounting from DePaul University, and is a CFA charter holder.

Carol Ann Williams

  • Since 1984, Carol Ann has developed a diverse portfolio in the interior design industry. She has worked both in Canada and for a time in Paris, France and in 1993, she established her own consultancy, Urban Life Design. Carol Ann has always been active in the not-for-profit community, dedicating her time and resources to women and their families. Her two primary charitable focuses have been the founding of the Girl’s Gathering event which for 18 years has supported the YWCA / Sheriff King Home, and her work as a director at Lionheart Foundation since 2012. Her desire to invest in Lionheart is in part due to her family’s involvement in working with the mental health issues of children, adolescents and their families.

    Carol Ann brings to Lionheart her passion for community work and in particular for the mental health challenges faced by adolescents and young adults. Carol Ann’s conviction to the cause is in part a response to the gaps she sees in the public health system and a desire to see access to best in class help for all of those in need, irrespective of financial resources.

Brenda Parker

  • Brenda recently retired after practicing law in the City of Calgary for over thirty years. Having experienced the struggles associated with mental health issues of an adolescent family member and the difficulties in accessing effective support, Brenda is dedicated to helping other adolescent girls, young women, and their families identify appropriate mental health resources and to overcome challenges to accessing them.

    As secretary and general counsel to a number of private companies, Brenda provided legal and governance advice and was involved in strategic planning activities and policy creation. In addition, she established a women’s leadership group for a group of related companies for whom she worked.

    In her free time, Maddie likes to take her dog to the dog park, travel, read, crochet, and play Stardew Valley.
